HIPAA

AWA has made great accommodations as a result of the new privacy and security standards being promulgated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Per the proposed standards, all health plans, and healthcare providers must, at minimum, protect the privacy of this information, conduct a risk assessment and develop a security plan. They must also document these measures, keep them current, and train their employees on appropriate security procedures.

At AWA Collections, we understand that complying with these HIPAA standards is a key priority. AWA has studied the regulations and is taking appropriate action to comply in conjunction with assisting our clients’ compliance efforts. Our associates are expected to handle sensitive and personal information in a manner that ensures confidentiality.

The security, protection and integrity of our clients' patient information, frequently referred to as "Individually Identifiable Health Information (IASI)" will continue to be our standard business practice.
